For almost three years, our Amnesty group focused on human rights violations against women, has been following the individual case of Emirlendris Benítez. She was arbitrarily detained in 2018 and suffered multiple human rights violations in detention, including torture, gender-based violence and an unfair trial. In August 2026, Emirlendris was released under conditions. Our work on her case served as the starting point for this event.
Together with experts on Venezuela, we want to talk about the human rights situation of women in Venezuelan prisons and the wider human rights situation in the country.
The programme includes:
🖼️ Presentation of the photo project “Días Eternos” by Ana María Arévalo Gosen
✍️ Short talk by author and journalist Kaoru Yonekura
