Human rights in Uzbekistan: 10 years after the Andijan massacre, Amnesty International invites experts and witness to talk about police repression, freedom of expression and torture in this country.

Through the Looking Glass - Title

As part of Amnesty International's Stop Torture campaign and its efforts for the liberation of the jailed Uzbek journalist Muhammed Bekzanov, Berlin's English-speaking Group presents a screening of the documentary “Through the Looking Glass.” This shocking documentary by the noted Central Asia expert Monica Whitlock tells the story of the Andijan Massacre in Uzbekistan in May 2005, when security forces opened fire on a peaceful demonstration.

This documentary will be followed by panel discussion about human rights in Uzbekistan with four expert panelists: Galima Bukharbaeva, a journalist for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting and eye-witness of the 2005 massacre, Marie Lucas, Amnesty Germany's expert on Central Asia and Ulrike Gruska from Reporters Without Borders, as well as a delegate from the German ministry of foreign affairs.
